To 2565 Third Street from the East Bay
(These directions sound complicated, but they’re really not. Once you get off the bridge there's very little traffic, and it's flat. Mileage and number of blocks are approximate.)
- By the time you get to the western edge of the Bay Bridge, position yourself in the left-hand lane.
- Take the Fifth Street exit, which is the second left exit.
- Stay in the left lane, and at the bottom of the ramp make a sharp left turn (almost a U-turn) onto Fifth Street.
- Go .4 miles, 3+ blocks on Fifth Street until you come to a T-intersection with Townsend. The railroad tracks are across the street in front of you.
- Turn right on Townsend, and go 2 long blocks, .3 miles, past the Academy of Art on your right and along the tracks on your left, until you get to Seventh Street.
- Turn left on Seventh Street. Go 4-6 blocks (depending on how you count them), half a mile, to Sixteenth Street.
- Turn left on Sixteenth Street, going under the freeway and over the tracks.
- Go .25 miles on Sixteenth Street, and turn right at the third light onto Third Street.
- A little over half a mile along Third Street, you will see a big gray building on the left called American Industrial Center. The 2565 door is about in the middle of this building, between 22nd and 23rd Streets.
- If you have trouble finding parking on Third Street (there are strange restrictions), try Illinois Street, which is parallel to Third Street and one block to your left (East). Also, there is parking on 22nd and 23rd running a block further east from Illinois.
- You can also take BART. At any downtown station, get off and change to the Muni light rail T-Third line going toward the ballpark, and get off at 23rd Street. Parking is tight - take the T if you can!
The Graphic Arts Workshop is in the historic Dogpatch neighborhood, but we're not as out of the way as we used to be. The old Dogpatch neighborhood is booming! There are several restaurants now. The recently remodeled Dogpatch Saloon and the Mr. and Mrs. Miscellaneous ice cream parlor are on the corner. Around the corner there is a winery, Sutton Cellars, which has weekend tasting hours. Around another corner is Olivier's Butchery, also open on the weekend. A cheese shop, La Fromagerie, is in the next block up and open on Saturdays, as is Poco Dolce Chocolates. More fancy food purveyors popping up all the time. The Museum of Craft and Design is next door. And if all that isn't enough for you, there's a boxing gym across the street and a bouldering/climbing place further down our block.
